Objective:

  1. To provide a “walk through” the SIA Articles & Conditions of Building Contract and explain the pertinent provisions of the SIA Form;
  2. To highlight the duties & responsibilities of the Architect and of the Contractor imposed upon them by SIA Form; and
  3. To share some pointers on containing possible disputes.

 

Course Outline:

1. The role, powers, duties & responsibilities of the Architect;

 

2. The duties & responsibilities of the Contractor;

 

3. Examining & suggesting pointers to watch in the pertinent provisions of the SIA Form including:

Instructions (both verbal & written),  Directions, Work Programme

 

Notices, Possession of Site, Extension of Time, Liquidated Damages

 

Assignment & Subcontracting,  Indemnities, Insurance, Variations

 

   Termination by Employer due to Contractor’s Default & without Contractor’s Default

 

Termination & Suspension by Contractor, Payment

 

   Arbitration, Mediation and Fluctuations

 

4. Possible disputes that can arise and suggested pointers to minimize or contain such possible disputes.

 

 

Trainer’s CV:

Mr.Lee Kwok Weng, B.Eng. (Mech.)(S'pore), M.Sc.(Ind.Eng)(NUS), DipBA(NUS), GradDip Mktg.(MIS), LLB(Hons)(Bucks), LLM(Lond), Barrister-at-Law, Advocate & Solicitor, Supreme Court of Singapore, Accredited Arbitrator & Mediator, MMIS, FIES, Honorary Legal Advisor, IES & SISO, is currently in private legal practice for more than 24 years, running his own.

Mr. Lee is a very experienced lecturer and trainer and a much sought after speaker. He conducts teaching & training for various corporations, organizations and tertiary institutions as well as provide in-house courses for many businesses. Mr. Lee has been for many years an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Faculty of Business Administration, National University of Singapore, teaching in the MBA programme and has also been lecturing part-time at the Nanyang Technological University. He specialises in Business Contracts, Negligence, Information Technology and Engineering & Building Laws. He is a very experienced lecturer and trainer and is well-versed in the technical field, marketing and management practice too.

Mr.Lee brings with this considerable industrial project and business development management experience, having worked inter alia as a project engineer with the Singapore Government and project manager in a leading multi-national engineering and construction corporation.
