Objectives of the Course: |

1. to explain the legal
proceedings that take place at a court of law, tribunal and arbitration
and its rules. 2. to deal with the use of an
expert witness and when and how a professional or consultant like an engineer
or PE as an expert witness comes into the picture. 3. to provide participants with a
general working knowledge of the rules of evidence used in a legal proceeding
so as to help them when they act as a PE as an expert witness. 4. to explain the duties and
responsibilities of an expert witness and the liabilities (including criminal
liabilities). 5. to enable participants to acquire
the final point of drafting expert report, use of expert report and affidavit
in a legal proceeding. 6. to explain the intricacies of
the testimony of an expert witness in an examination, cross-examination and
re-examination in a legal proceeding. 7. to provide participants with
practical guidelines and hands-on-experience as an expert witness by
role-playing guided by the trainer in a simulated legal proceeding |

relevant rules of court and arbitration rules as used in a hearing at a court
of law, tribunal or arbitration
- what is an affidavit -
the purpose and use of an
affidavit in a court proceeding -
the role of witnesses in a
legal proceeding and the differences between a witness and an expert
witness: when, why and how an expert witness comes into the legal proceedings -
who can be an expert witness,
how to become an expert witness, the fees chargeable -
the duties/obligations,
responsibilities of an expert witness -
the liabilities (including
criminal liabilities) of an expert witness Day 2 - as technical professional such as an
engineer/PE as an expert witness and the rules of conduct and etiquette - preparing and drafting expert report:

GradDip Mktg.(MIS), LLB(Hons)(Bucks), LLM(Lond), Barrister-at-Law, Advocate & Solicitor,
Supreme Court of Singapore, Accredited Mediator
&Arbitrator, MMIS,
FIES, Honorary Legal Advisor, IES & SISO, is currently in private legal
practice. He has been for many years an
Adjunct Associate Professor at the Faculty of Business Admin, National
University of Singapore, teaching Business Law in the MBA programme and was also a part-time lecturer in NTU. He specialises in Business
Contracts, Negligence, Information Technology and Engineering & Building
Laws. He is a very experienced lecturer and trainer and is well-versed in the
technical field, marketing and management practice too. Mr.Lee
brings with him considerable industrial project and
business development management experience, having worked as a project
manager in a leading Multi-national engineering and construction corporation
serving the oil and gas industries onshore and offshore. A knowledgeable hands-on litigation lawyer, Mr.Lee
also brings with him a wealth of practical knowledge & experience of the procedural and legal requirements of arbitration and court
proceedings as well as at tribunal hearings |
