Objectives |
1. To provide participants with a general knowledge of the Singapore Legal System and the laws to enable them to appreciate and evaluate the impact of the legal system and laws on their work in facility management (FM) or related field. 2. To enable participants to acquire and apply their knowledge of contract, negligence, property & building law to their practice or their work in facility or related management. 3. To enable participants to acquire and use their knowledge of technical and related laws & legislations including Fire Safety Act, Land Title (Strata) Act & Workplace Safety & Health Act in order to support their work in facility or related management. |

Day 1 - Introduction to classification of law, common law and statute law and judicial precedents. -
Working Knowledge of
Contract Law covering: formalities and formation of a
valid contract š terms of contract š privity of contract and vitiating factors
(e.g. misrepresentation, duress) š illegal
contracts and discharge of contracts (through agreement, frustration, etc) š breach of
contract, available remedies, provision of liquidated damages - Practical Study of different types of contract related to FM
viz. equipment rental, licence, etc - Recourse Avenues
such as mediation and arbitration - Introduction to the Law of Tort -
Tort of Negligence and its elements - Direct & vicarious liabilities Day 2
- Professional
negligence in facility & related management practice
- An outline of
property & building laws - Land
Title (Strata) Act - An
overview of relevant sections of other technical legislations affecting or
related to FM including:
=> Workplace Safety
& Health Act (relating to common property)

Mr.Lee
Kwok Weng, B.Eng. (Mech.)(S'pore), M.Sc.(Ind.Eng)(NUS), DipBA(NUS), GradDip
Mktg.(MIS), LLB(Hons)(Bucks), LLM(Lond), Barrister-at-Law, Advocate &
Solicitor (Retired), Supreme Court of Singapore, MMIS, FIES, Honorary Legal
Advisor, IES, a senior lawyer, was in continuous private legal practice for
almost 29 years running his own law firm before his retirement from legal
practice. He has been for many years an
Adjunct Associate Professor at the Faculty of Business Admin, National
University of Singapore, teaching Business Law in the MBA programme as well
as an Adjunct Lecturer with NTU & BCA Academy. He specialises in Business
Contracts, Negligence, Information Technology and Engineering & Building
Laws. He is a very experienced lecturer and trainer and is well-versed in the
technical field, marketing and management practice too. Mr.Lee
brings with him
considerable industrial project and business development management
experience, having worked as an engineer/project manager for more than 12
years in the public & private sectors and eventually as a senior project
manager in a leading Multi-national engineering and construction corporation
serving the energy, oil and gas industries onshore and offshore. A knowledge lawyer himself, Mr.Lee
also brings with him a wealth of practical knowledge & experience of the
legal requirements, setting & starting and managing businesses in the
knowledge economy as he is a co-founder of and legal/corporate adviser to
some IT/internet
& other companies. |
